One of my biggest struggles, fears, and passions as a christ follower has been the pursuit of the least of these. When I started my journey in Christ I really thought that the gospel was something that gained me a ticket to heaven and required very little in the way of work on my part. Then I read a crazy book from a guy named Donald Miller. It wrecked me. I never realized the gospel was real and not only that but we were to serve others than ourselves.
When reading through this text its impossible to ignore two things. God has called us to servanthood and we are to serve those others have abandoned. Jesus lays out very specifically that when we no man can lead in life expect through servitude and while this seems contradictory I've seen in my own life over and over how that has been true.
Jesus is very concerned for the orphans, widows and other downtrodden as he constantly reminds us that whatever is done onto them we also do unto Christ. I would challenge you to go seek out some of the fringe people in your life. Those you know that are lonely and seem to be considered weird by many. Learn how to love these people.
