| Proverbs 25:2 |
John
quotes Jesus three times in two chapters saying “If you ask
anything in My name, it will be done for you.” Twice it is
explicitly connected to the glory of the Father and twice it is
explicitly connected to fruit. Once to both of them: “By this My
Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My
disciples.”
Obviously,
Jesus is not saying that we can just tack on the magical words “in
Jesus' name” to get what we want from God when we pray. I know
this, because I've tried it. :/
The
key is probably somewhere in that mumbo-jumbo about vines, abiding,
bearing fruit, and all that whatnot.
It's
also somewhat comforting, schadenfreude aside, to see the disciples confused. They
understood the words that were coming out of his mouth, but just not
in the order that He put them in. I can relate. Honestly, sometimes
the answers that Jesus gives to questions are really confusing, and I
sometimes think “You must justa had to be there. Then it would make more sense.” Whelp... I guess not.
Proverbs 25:2 It is God's privilege to conceal things and the king's privilege to discover them.
