FAQ

I am a slow reader and have never been able to really read the Bible before (or any book for
that matter!). How in the world am I going to be able to commit to this reading plan?
OK, lots of questions here, but common reactions to any reading plan. First, remember this
reading plan will be a survey of the story of God found in the Bible. That means we won’t be
reading every chapter and verse that will allow for more time to read what we are covering
together.

Second, if you are a slow reader we have a suggestion. Listen to the Bible! Not only are there many
versions of audio Bibles available to purchase but websites like www.biblegateway.com have
FREE audio for every chapter and verse of the Bible where you get to listen to the sweet voice of
Max McLean tickle your ears each morning on the drive into work.

So… I won’t be reading every single word of the Bible?
No, the reading plan will not be a comprehensive reading of every verse and chapter. We will read
from the whole Bible; however, we will be taking a survey approach to be able to focus on grasping
the big story found in the Bible. It’s not about saving time by not reading “unimportant” stuff as
everything in the Bible is important; however, it is to give us all a chance to take a slower,
prayerful journey through the story found in the Bible.

What if I fall behind on the reading?
This all sounds great but what if I forget to read for a day. Or you know, 12 days. This is where
many get frustrated and quit. If you fall behind and you feel hopeless in catching up… Here’s the
secret - don’t try to catch up. Just pick up where you left off!

Any tips for a beginner reading through the Bible the first time or for someone who has
struggled with reading in the past?
Absolutely! Outside of picking a good space and time here are a few things to try…
  1. Read prayerfully. Ask God to speak to you through His Word. Speak with God as you read asking any question you have as you read the text. Then ask that God would enable you not just to become smarter by what you read but to be changed.
  2. Get a journal and write down your thoughts or questions you go. This is especially helpful to those who enjoy writing or need an outlet to get their thoughts out of their heads.
  3. Add coffee. Actually, this pretty much a general life tip. Just add coffee.
