Acts 3-4: They were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness

Duck and cover! It's a bullet post!
Bullets are post picture.
  • I wonder how many times Jesus had seen this lame man begging at the temple gate? The man was over 40 years old at this time. Did Jesus see this guy back when He was 12 years old when He stayed in the temple after his parents left?
  • Did this guy see Jesus preaching daily in the temple after he “triumphally entered” Jerusalem that year? Did he have hope for healing? Did he lose all hope when he heard that the miracle worker had been crucified for rebellion?
  • The way the story is written it says that Peter “took him by the right hand and lifted him up.” I can see this guy gaping at Peter like “What'd this crazy man just say?!?” Or perhaps he was jaded, and told these two wannabes to “Shove off!” You can almost see Peter the Impulsive just grabbing the guys arm and yanking him to his feet with a bellow: “I said, 'Get up and walk!!'”
  • 3:14 “You denied the Holy One and the Just, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you” Peter again, calling 'em like he sees 'em. He doesn't pull any punches. I wonder if Peter wouldn't get on my nerves. He's a little too brash and blunt for my tastes. He is “that guy.”
  • Is it OK to say I might have a personality clash with one of “The Twelve?" I'm trusting that all the jokes are wrong when they refer to St. Peter as the guy standing at the Pearly Gates.
  • 4:14 “And seeing the man standing with them they could say nothing against it.” [chuckle] “Yeah, uh, we really don't think that what you did was OK, but... uh... I guess since this lame guy is walking now... and, uh, everybody saw you do it... and heard you say it was Jesus... just – just don't tell anyone about it and don't do it again!”
  • 4:24-30 I keep glancing back to this passage, trying to find the spot where they prayed for safety or deliverance.
  • Almost surely, that would've been the first request out of my mouth during that prayer.
  • I wonder if the recorded prayers are verbatim and it really was only 2 minutes praying, or if it is like a condensed summary of a few hours worth.
  • “They were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.”
  • Want!
