Jeremiah 50-51

The first time I read through these chapters...I fell asleep. I'm not going to lie it's been a rough couple weeks in the Lubbers home and I'm TIRED. All the time tired. The word Babylon just kept going through my head and then I was asleep.

But then I woke up! And upon waking the word Babylon was still in my head, so I cataloged what I knew about that famed city: the city was massive and impressive (I mean for cryin out loud the gardens are one of the seven wonders of the world!), the army was brutal and feared, the people saw themselves as invincible, and there was a great deal of wealth floating around. Reminds me of a certain country that I currently live in. If someone told me that tonight a foreign nation would invade America and break it to pieces, I don't think there is anything they could say to convince me to believe it. That had to be what Jeremiah sounded like. So what could possibly bring down this empire?

We see in Daniel 5 exactly WHY the Babylonians were doomed, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah was coming and he was NOT happy. Daniel tells us that one night the king of Babylon was having a self-honoring feast and decided to bring out the holy goblets from the Lord's temple to get drunk and toast to his gods. It doesn't sit too well with our God when you use things that were meant to be holy for an unholy purpose. That very night Babylon fell.

You yourself are a vessel of the holy God:
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;  you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. ~ 1 Cor. 6:19-20
So let's take a lesson from Tom and Donna and remember to
Remember, I'm very tired...
