This chapter outlines the reign of two kings of Judah and
many kings of Israel. Also, the two
kings of Judah did right in the eyes of God for the most part, and all of the
kings of Israel did evil in the eyes of God and were assassinated (except for
one).
We have seen time and time again how God is calling his
people to holiness, and time and time again, His people ignore that call and
instead give in to their evil desires.
As a consequence terrible things happen to Israel and Judah. People get assassinated or get leprosy.
The author seems to point out that God will not turn a blind
eye to sin. These rulers were evil and
deserved whatever end they got. It is
important to remember as Christians to live lives that seek righteousness and
holiness – to desire to do right in the eyes of the Lord.
God desires for us to be in a relationship with Him where we
rely on Him for everything. Instead man
is often out for himself seeking power or fame.
As Christians, it is our duty to continually come to the foot of the
cross where we give up these evil desires and instead seek God’s glory.
