So with Proverbs I tend to really find points of intense wisdom. Basically really amazing points said in a short and simple fashion. So instead of giving an over view of this entire passage I will instead pick a couple lines out per chapter that really hit heavy with me and do some storytelling. Sound good? Awesome
Chapter 16:6-7
By steadfast love and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the Lord one turns away from evil. When a man's ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
One of biggest struggles through life has been the sense of where to begin the journey. What I mean by that is where do I start to fix my wounds, where do I heal things from my past? Here in Proverbs it is made very clear that we are to be live in consistent love and faithfulness. Only when we see God for his hugeness do we turn our backs against the thing that has ensnared us and left us bleeding. I love the next verse as well, when we walk with God, even our enemies become friends. One thing that's been pressed upon me so much recently is a desire to be a man of peace. So this sits very deep with me.
Chapter 17:17
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
Love the imagery here. We are to love at all times our friends (non-kingdom folks). However as brothers(kingdom folks) we are born to share adversity. What a wake up call that is to us for relaying our burdens to each other. We must press in onto our church family and share in the pain, tears, and sinfulness of flesh.
Chapter 18:2
A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.
I always thought I was a good listener......then I got married. Yep I learned very quick that I often do to much talking and not enough listening. God is really good at teaching us these Proverbs in our own lives. With KT it is something I have to learn daily to listen to both her words and her silence. She can speak loudly in both ways. I think for me its showed me how to listen to my other conversations as well, for which I'm very thankful
I'll leave you with one last Proverb and its a doozy.
Proverbs 18:6
6 A fool's lips walk into a fight, and his mouth invites a beating.
Ouch.
