In the midst of messages of destruction, condemnation and judgement, there is a prophecy in the book of Micah that is full of hope and peace.
In Micah 5:2-5, the prophet tells of the One who would come from Bethlehem, whose beginnings were from long ago, from the days of eternity. He would shepherd His flock in strength and majesty. He would be great to the ends of the earth. And He would be our peace.
This One is Jesus.
The message of Jesus brought hope and peace to people who heard of Him hundreds of years before His coming. In the midst of the oppression and destruction around them, they undoubtedly clung to the hope of what was to come.
The message of Jesus continues to bring hope and peace to people who now hear of Him thousands of years after He came to earth as the Messiah. He is establishing His kingdom here. We live in the already but the not yet, as we await the fulfillment of all of His promises.
So, in the midst of the oppression and destruction around us now, we cling to the hope of what is to come. Because He will come again. He will reign in strength and majesty. He will be great to the ends of the earth. And He will be our peace for all eternity.
" 'Yes I am coming quickly.' Amen. Come, Lord Jesus." (Revelation 22:20).
