“I will bring back the
captives of my people Israel;
They shall build the waste
cities and inhabit them;
They shall plant vineyards
and drink wine from them;
they shall also make
gardens and eat fruit from them.
I will plant them in their
land,
And no longer shall they
be pulled up
From the land I have given
them,
Says the Lord your God”
(Amos 9:14-15)
One of the things I've
noticed about prophecy in the Bible is that even in the midst of
judgment and chastisement it seems like there is always a promise
given. A promise of restoration. A promise that there will be a
better day coming. A promise of redemption. A promise that one day,
the judgments on sin will be over, when righteousness shall be
established, and we will not have to endure any more of the effects
of sin. Ever.
There is an inheritance for
us from which we will never be removed. Not because of our own sins,
nor because of the sins of others. The cities of our lives, ruined by sin, will be rebuilt. Even creation itself will cease its groaning and be made a New Creation. This is our Great Hope: that
because the Righteousness of Jesus has been imputed to us, we are now
co-heirs with Him, and just as His kingdom is established forever, so
we too are established forever in His kingdom. Never to be pulled up.
Ever.
