It was finally time.Jesus was on the move. He began healing and eating/being with people and making disciples and showing the world His Glory. I feel slightly jaded since I grew up in the church. These miracles Jesus was doing were so intentional -- so purposefully placed as to show much more than just the miracle itself. Everything that was described in these passaged were full of intention. With only three years to show His Glory here on earth, he had to be intentional.
Part of his intentionality was surrounding himself with sinner and what the christianly outcasts. In Luke 5:30 The Pharisees basically ask, "why are you surrounding yourself with sinners" and Jesus answers,
“Who needs a doctor: the healthy or the sick? I’m here inviting outsiders, not insiders—an invitation to a changed life, changed inside and out.”
He was on mission, even at the dinner table. Often times our dinner tables are safe places. We have our families and friends... and maybe every once in a while we take a calculated risk and extend an invitation to a coworker we would probably get along with well.
I think we may have it all wrong. What better place to extend the love of Christ than a shared meal? There is something deep and personal about inviting someone into your meals. It requires vulnerability and the willingness for awkward silences and clanking silverwares sounds. If we also become intentional about inviting more outsiders into our meals, consider how your family would naturally become more kingdom minded. Consider how His Glory would be shown through your family!
