Psalm 71-72: You are

This is such a unique moment in the Psalms --The exit of one king and the entrance of another. David is looking back on his life and acknowledging all that God has done. What an adventuresome life David has led, many ups and many downs – and the Lord remained faithful. Through his psalm, it is as though David is showing his son (Solomon, the King to be) that God has sustained this nation and he passionately cares for the kingdom. At the end of his reign in Psalm 71, David proclaims God as his shelter, shield, listener, rock, hope, savior, rescuer, teacher, comforter, and judge. David’s perspective on life and of God is vast.
Often we live in the moment (which is good, I believe, to an extent). The pains are deep and joys are high. It’s as though life is a checklist of what we need from God right now and how God is working in our lives presently. But what if we lived knowing who God was forever. Who he was would be throughout our lives. How boldly and confidently we could walk into the storms and into the jubilee. What would change if you awoke every morning and remembered…
God you are my shelter when I need to evade the storm, you are my shield from evil, you are my listener when I need to ramble and praise and question and cry, you are my rock, my unshaken and still, my hope of true and the savior of all, my rescuer, my teacher, the ultimate comforter, and the just judge.

I challenge you to take what David learned of the attributes of God in a lifetime, and hold steadfast to those now.
