Psalm 45 is
a beautiful depiction of the marriage between the coming Christ and his Church.
We read of the magnificence and anointing of the chosen King and the beauty and
purification of His Bride. It confuses me that the psalmist knew so well this
idea, only knowing of God’s promise for redemption. Oh how their hearts must
have longed for the Rescuer.
I love the
image of the Bride entering the palace. Beautiful. Adorned. Spotless. Perfect.
I don’t ever
feel perfect. In fact, far far from it. It is pure love and grace that I can
even enter the throne room of God and that He would see me as spotless.
My heart echoes the song “Brokenness Aside”:
‘Cause I am a sinner
if it’s not one thing, it’s another
Caught up in words tangled in lies
But you are a Savior
And you take brokenness aside
And make it beautiful, beautiful
May we not
forget that in our brokenness and weakness His grace is made perfect. We can
approach the throne of God – humbled by His mercy and clothed in spotless
righteousness.
