Isaiah 6-7 - God's Holiness and Faithfulness.

God is holy and He is faithful.  Always.

In Isaiah 6 we get a glimpse of Isaiah's commissioning.

Isaiah sees God seated on a throne, high and exalted.
He sees seraphs declaring, "Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory."
He is overwhelmed by God's holiness and his own unworthiness.
He is forgiven of his guilt and sin
He is sent out.

But not just sent.  He volunteers. Wholeheartedly says, "Here I am.  Send me!"

So God sends Isaiah out as His mouthpiece.  And the passage that follows demonstrates once again God's faithfulness and sovereignty as the great Storyweaver.

Ahaz, king of Judah, hears that two other kings are coming to overtake him.  He is understandably afraid.
"The hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind."  Isaiah 7:2
But God tells Isaiah to go to Ahaz and to tell him to not be afraid and to not lose heart because the other two kings will not be able to overpower Judah.  In fact, it is their people who will be shattered in the years to come.
"This is what the Sovereign Lord says:  It will not take place, it will not happen....Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be too shattered to be a people....If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all."  Isaiah 7:7-9
Ahaz stood in fear as his circumstances threatened him.  But God had a greater plan.  He was weaving a greater story.  In protecting Ahaz from the impending attack, He was not simply protecting Judah for that time.  He was protecting the entire line of Judah....the line from which Jesus would come.  If the other two kings had indeed taken over Ahaz and had destroyed Judah, God's promise that the Messiah would come from the house of David could not be fulfilled.

But God would not let His promise go unfulfilled.  Man could not ruin that which He had put in place.  His story would continue.  His Rescue would be fulfilled.

And that was Ahaz's peace.  His God was greater than his circumstances.  And He is greater than ours.  The story He is writing will prevail.  He is not limited, hindered or ever surprised by our circumstances.  He is always greater, He is always at work, He is always writing a story far grander than we can comprehend.

And that is our peace.  That the story is not over yet.  That no matter what we face that causes us to shake in fear, our God will win.  Because He has promised that He will win.  He will reign as king forever.  And we will stand before Him on the throne one day declaring "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty!"
