Isaiah 2-4

This blog is going to be short due to the fact that I am traveling to Marsailles with the rest of the team from Red Door.  With this is mind, I want to highlight a few key aspects of this passage through the lens of God's love for Israel, Israel's disobedience, and ultimately The Lord coming to his people.

The is a simple truth to understand throughout all if theology is that God loves his people. Since this truth reigns throughout all of scripture, God desires and makes a way for his people to reflect him.  God desires for himself to be made known and glorified through the actions of his people.  Isaiah 2-3 show God's displeasure doesn't happen.  He disciplines and punishes Israel because they are. It living as reflections of him to the world and they are replacing him with the worship of other gods and idols.  This robs God of his greatness and we can see that he will make himself know inspite of the lack of worship that is happening.  His love to them was not reflected and they would be punished for it.

Israel's disobedience is clear and so is the punishment for these actions.  The wiping out of people, crops, lands, and the conquering by other people.  This was the price that they would pay. They replaced God with other things and they do not obey the desires of God.  This leads to God making his glory known through his judgement.  His judgement coming down and for Israel to turn back to worshipping.

Isaiah 2-3 speak of this judgement coming, but something interesting happens in chapter 4. The Lord will enact his judgement, but then he returns to his people. He makes them righteous and good by his own doing because that is his nature.  This passage is consistent with the God reveals himself thoughout scripture and all time.  There is wickedness and there are people living in that wickedness.  The Lord states that destruction and judgement come to them and the people are deserving of it. Ultimately, The Lord will enact judgment, but the final act is that God comes to his people. This is present her in Isaiah 2-4 and present through the coming of Jesus in the gospel. We see that now in our present time and our role is to reflect the nature of God because he will return and return to his people.  This is the picture we see in Isaiah 2-4.
