2 I spread out my hands all the day to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, following their own devices...Much of Isaiah has lamented the perpetual rebellion that God has endured. He has pursued, loved, protected, and sustained a group of people that have returned nothing but scorn and hatred. Because of their sin, their judgment pronouncement is less than encouraging. Their evilness has earned them destruction.
15 For behold, the LORD will come in fire, and his chariots like the whirlwind, to render his anger in fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. How wonderful it is to know that while God cannot tolerate evil, He also has a love for His people that has no equal. The same God that must separate sin from His perfect self also loves those same sinful creatures enough to redeem them and make them whole. He tells the people of Israel that He will make all things new.
17 "For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. 18 But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a joy, and her people to be a gladness. The people that rejected their King are the same people that God wants to use as a joy and as a gladness unto the world.
10 "Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice with her in joy, all you who mourn over her; 11 that you may nurse and be satisfied from her consoling breast; that you may drink deeply with delight from her glorious abundance."God wants all the nations to rejoice with Jerusalem and to be filled with joy through the people of Israel; He has great plans for His people to bless all the nations.
Israel may not fully understand what is in store for them, but God has big plans for them - a plan to rescue not just the people of Israel, but ALL of His people - His people from every nation and every corner of the earth.
