Exodus 9-10: Our B.A. God

Lets just get this out of the way....the plagues are weird. Whenever I read these chapters I imagine sweeping shots of Charlton Heston laying down the the law on the Pharaoh, that are mostly informed by easter sunday films when I was younger. As I've grown up a bit I've started to see something very different as I read these chapters. Gods power.

You see one thing I believe people miss about the plagues is that God isn't hulling off and being B.A. for the heck of it. God is showing himself, his glory, his unfathomable power to His people. The plagues are not for Pharaoh to see so he would give up the people of Israel. God could have done this easily by changing his heart instead of "hardening his heart".

Simply God is showing his strength and his care to his people. God is showing to his people that my strength is greater than all you have been enslaved to. The line I always get hung up on is after God explains that he has hardened the Pharaohs heart in Chapter 10:1&2 he ends by saying, "so that you may know that I am the Lord." I tend to forget that Israel and Moses are getting to see for the first time Gods hugeness. That God is getting to show off His power so He may assure them that He will deliver them to His promise.

When I look at my own life I see Gods wonderful power being wielded as well. He raises up my tiresome soul from time to time just to show me He can still restore a broken family, a hopeless neighborhood, and a country caught up in some senseless bloodshed.

Rest easy in our great and powerful God.
