Exodus 13-15

Exodus 13-15

We have seen through the plagues, God display His great power and control over the things of the earth and over life and death.  Surely these feats were great, and they got the attention of the Egyptians, but God had even more in store.

God chose to harden the hearts of Pharaoh and the Egyptians so that they would make chase after the Israelites.  He did this so that he could display his greatest feat of power yet, and make sure that all of Israel and Egypt would know that He is God.

Just when it seemed as though Israel was trapped between the armies of Egypt and the Red Sea, God told Moses to hold out his staff over the water.  God sent a great wind and parted the Red Sea.  Israel was able to walk across the water on dry land.

Egypt pursued Israel into the Red Sea, but Pharaoh’s armies were getting close, God sets the waters upon them, killing the entire Egyptian army, and saving Israel from certain death.

But, this is just a foreshadowing of what was to come.

The Israelites did not know God, but God still loved them and sent them a savior in the form of Moses.  God did great things for them, because He loved them.

Even though God displayed great feats of power against the Egyptians, He was saving his greatest feat for last.  A few thousand years later, God would send His son Jesus to save the world from an even bigger enemy than Pharaoh.

We did not know God, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).  For when things looked bleak for us and our backs were against the proverbial wall, Jesus came to Earth, died on the Cross, and saved us from certain death.
Our Exodus from death to life.
