Wow. After reading these Psalms I want to go sing some worship songs to God. I seriously love these Psalms. Psalm 100 has always been my favorite. I even had it read at my wedding. It's simplistic and beautiful. All of these Psalms call Israel (and by extension, the church) to worship. And the crazy thing is, we worship and serve the One True God... the One who was there when time began. The One who fashioned the earth and everything in it. The One who breathed life into man and woman. The One who created the ENTIRE Universe... you know, the one that's ALWAYS expanding. It's so mind-blowing to think about this huge God we serve.
And yet, He stoops down and allows us to know Him. Time and time again we see in these Psalms that He's described as eternally loving and merciful. He has to be in order to have a relationship with us. I mean, He's entirely holy and we're utterly sinful. He allows us into His presence- the King of the Universe.
And did you notice in Psalm 107, the parallels to what Jesus did on earth. When Jesus read Isaiah 61:1-2 talking about His ministry and His purpose, it sounds so much like the way God is described in Psalm 107. Jesus, God in the flesh, the same One True God who created the entire Universe came down to be with us. It's so powerful reading these Psalms as a people who follow Jesus. It gives them so much extra weight and significance. All I can say is wow and what a great God we serve.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
Praise Him all creatures here below.
Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts.
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen.
