1 Samuel 13-14

Most of the content of these two chapters is sort of setting the stage for future events. I want to focus on a bold act of faith from a young man who chose to obey his earthly master. Jonathan asks his young armor bearer to go pick a fight with the army that is surrounding them. 2 guys vs. an army. Now I assume this armor bearer was under some obligation to comply with Jonathan's wishes, but there are still a lot of things he could have done. He could have gone to Saul and told him Jonathan's plan. He could have reluctantly gone strictly out of a desire to avoid being reprimanded by those in authority over him. He could have said, "sir, yes sir!" and boldly gone to die with Jonathan to maintain some sense of honor. But instead he responds this way:
Do all that is in your heart. Do as you wish. Behold, I am with you heart and soul. (14:7)
If my kids responded to me like that when I asked them to do something difficult I would be AMAZED. It reminds me of Mary's response when an angel told her something was about to happen to her that could cause her death:

And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38)
This very verse is the reason we gave our daughter the name Mary. We want her to be a woman who responds positively to God's ideas and commands with her whole heart and soul. I want Red Door to have that heart too! What is God asking of you today? Have courage. Dive in heart and soul! You are a servant of the Lord and he knows what he's doing.
