1 Samuel 9 and 10

Here in 1 Samuel 9 and 10 we are introduced to Saul. He is the son of Kish and from the small tribe of the Benjamin. Saul is physically imposing and tall. He stands over all the other Israelites. He would demand attention and respect just by entering a room. When I imagine a king, that is how I imagine him looking. He would be able to strike fear into the hearts of Israel's enemies.

Even though Saul is physically strong, he has insecurities. He comes from a small, insignificant tribe and has an inferiority complex. He even hides when he is chosen to be King! I can definitely relate to Saul. Wouldn't it be extremely scary to be chosen to be a leader like that? I mean, he didn't know how to be King and the people desperately wanted a King and probably had high expectations. Talk about pressure! If I were Saul, I would most likely be like "Hey, you've got the wrong guy here." But the passage also talks about God transforming Saul's heart. He could not have become King without God changing His heart. Even though Saul hid, Samuel was there to instruct him and more importantly, God was there to say to all the people, "Look, this is your King." God was there at just the right moment to equip Saul to take the Kingship.

See this is what's great about God: when He calls us into something, He equips us with what we need. Saul didn't even have to ask for it because God already knew his need. Even though the task ahead may be so daunting, God will give us what we need to complete the task. His word will not return void.  What a great promise! So if you're reading this today and have something that God has called you to do, tackle it with faith in God will give you exactly what you need.
